Have a large space that needs original art, but operating with a small budget? That’s the scenario we reconciled in Austin. The curator of a worldwide financial institution contacted us to transform their two employee stairwells into spaces of interest, using color and movement. Read on to learn how we delivered!
Our Austin client’s interior design and existing artwork is primarily geometric in nature and similar in color palette. Additionally, their art collection had been derived entirely from the local art community. To keep the flow, it made sense to place local, complimentary art within their stairwells. But to place many small original works would have been too costly, not to mention off-trend. Enter Austin artist, Annie Darling, and her original work Red Dot Rising, an encaustic piece sized 20” x 48”.
Our task was to transform this small piece into four new works of art, each measuring 18 x 24 feet, while remaining true to the aura of Red Dot Rising. The original encaustic was first photographed and manipulated to create a digital likeness. To maintain Annie’s original intentions, modifications in color and design were made in total collaboration with her, then rendered graphically, and finally, approved by both the artist and the client. We then involved a fine art printer to manufacture the monstrous wallpaper panels and relied on our team for expert installation. And here is the dynamic result:
